This one is more memorable for the snow. Most we've seen in SW OK in decades.

Joe, The thickets I hunt rarely ever give me a shot father that 50 or 60 yards.
My favorite load for these is a 250 grain LSWC over 12.5 grains of Blue Dot.
I like the sights on your rifle. I'll bet that's a lot faster and better sight picture than I get with the buck horn rear sight on mine. I'm going to have to find something better before long, My eyes aren't as good as they used to be. Thanks for the reply. I like the peep sights much better than blade sights. I find it is easier to shoot later with them as well as being faster. Most of my non scoped guns have some sort of peep sight installed

This rifle screams for a 1x4 straight tube scope.

in the amazing 270
Whatever a 7x57 can do a 270 can do better.

Love this thread; wish its founder would visit more often! Here is my first love, a Mauser 96 American in 06 that I took w/ me to the Black Hills of SD this year. I found this burned out stump in a drainage high above highway 16 between Hill City & Rapid City: I like that rifle and background. Here's my lowly ol Ruger m77 338 win mag this year during our (yes, I'm sentimental about this ol Ruger m77) elk hunt:
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

In the right place! Heck yes! I need to get some Butler Creek flipper-uppers for it next trip to Lewistown though.. I hate messing with the stock bikini covers, especially in the snow.. Have you been lobo hunting yet?

Nooooooo I'm too old, tired, fat and lazy to get out there at -18 degrees! I was thinking this morning though, there will be hungry canids out that that would respond well to a call right now..
